Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (KGBV)
Scheme Brief
The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) are residential hostels at the upper primary to senior secondary level for girls belonging predominantly to the SC, ST, OBC and minority communities in difficult areas. KGBVs are setup in Educationally Backward Blocks of the State. The KGBV Hostels are attached with existing government schools.
KGBV hostel have been divided into three categories i.e Type I, Type-III & Type-IV.
Coverage
Girls studying in Government schools from Class 6th to 12th belonging to SC, ST, OBC, Minority communities, Orpan child, Single parent child and Below poverty line are enrolled in residential hostels.

KGBV hostels in Punjab have a significant impact on girls' education and empowerment.
These residential schools, especially in educationally backward blocks

- bridge the gender gap, and enhance skill development,
- leading to improved educational outcomes and greater opportunities for girls
KGBV Hostels details
In the State of Punjab 30 KGBVs have been sanctioned by Govt. of India, 28 for Educationally Backward Blocks and one for minority concentrated block Malerkotla and one for aspirational district Moga. The district wise and type wise detail of these 30 hostels is as follows:-
